Principles of Dance Medicine: Clinical Management of the Dancer Patient

Host: Harkness Center for Dance Injuries of the NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases (NATABOC Provider # P2540)

Audience: Medical doctors, certified athletic trainers, physical therapists, nurse practitioners.
Continuing medical education credits will be available.
Objectives: Upon completion of this conference, participants will:
1. Recognize influences of intrinsic and extrinsic factors on injury occurrence in dancers and implement strategies to modify and prevent these risks.
2. Assess and identify ergonomic challenges of the dance workplace and learn effective modifications for such challenges.
3. Identify special needs of the adolescent dancer and implement appropriate preventative and rehabilitative care.
4. Recognize appropriate measurement needs and techniques for capturing screening data, learn how to implement pre-participation screenings for the dance population, and interpret trends identified through the screening process.
5. Modify and customize support and corrective devices, such as taping, bandaging, and posting, unique to the dancer s needs and injury.
6. Apply appropriate manual therapy techniques and rehabilitation protocols to the treatment of dance related injury to increase treatment efficacy.
